In your journey to good health you will definitely interact with plenty of clinicians; physicians, nurses, aides, techs, etc.  Health care workers are the greatest people on earth and they do an amazing amount of heavy lifting while taking care of thousands of patients.  When I was receiving my transplant at Moffitt Cancer Center I was in the hospital for 10 days and 20 days after as an outpatient.  The care I received from beginning to end was outstanding; so I made a point to write down every name I came in contact with and sent a letter to the Chairman of the Board after I rang the discharge bell celebrating the care I received from all of these great people.  When Diane picked me up; however, none of these folks piled into the car and came home with me.  They didn’t drive me back and forth to doctor’s visits and testing.  They didn’t stay up with Diane late at night while I am sleeping and she is worrying whether I am going to recover and what her life will be like if I don’t.  They didn’t help me explain to my sons and siblings that losing 40 pounds is normal.  I still remember the wonderful care I received at Moffitt, but  I no longer remember any of the names or even faces of the clinicians.  The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life does a special recognition walk for caregivers – your spouse, partner, friends, and family to remind you how important they are for your recovery.  Make sure you treat them well at home; since they’re the ones carrying you over the finish line.

  1. You are one of the most remarkable people I know, in so many ways. Your words will inspire and uplift many. I personally know all you’ve been through, and I’m sure I only really know the parts you let me see. I’ve never once heard you complain, although you have much to complain about. You are my personal hero.❤️

    1. Jane, thanks for the nice comments. I’m never sure how you feel about me; especially when you thought I was stuck up the 1st time we met. Thank God I’ve grown on you. Pete

Thanks for reading and letting me know your thoughts!
